Easter—It’s about Jesus Christ

While driving in the car to work I heard a commercial for a local super market promoting their Easter deals for this coming Easter weekend. I usually don’t get caught off guard with the worldly view of Easter but the way they phrased their ad really hit me. The pitch was basically, ‘What is Easter’ and ‘What does Easter mean to you’. Of course when they said this I instantly thought of our Savior Jesus Christ. Well, the commercial went on to explain that Easter was about being together, okay, I agree with that one. Then they went on to say its the egg hunt and candy. Yes, that is fun and I enjoy candy. Then they went into something about Easter being about trading recipes and the best potato salad. I actually started laughing to myself as they tied in ‘What does Easter mean to you’ to eating potato salad. I was hoping they would bring up the religious aspect of it but knowing they never would. Well, they missed the mark about what Easter really is. Easter is about our Savior Jesus Christ and the miracle that is the Atonement. It’s about knowing we can be better people and that there is a purpose to our lives. It’s about knowing there is something greater and through Jesus Christ we can find peace and happiness when there is so much turmoil in the world. Easter is about Jesus Christ and his example of service and love, knowing that we can overcome any challenge through his power and example.

What does Easter mean to me? Knowing that Jesus Christ lives.
