Golden Voice ‘Thankful to Be Here’

First of all, I think this is an awesome story. It’s nice to see someone get a second chance at life. I’m sure there are already plans for a movie underway.

Second, I just have a few thoughts on this story.

One thing that impresses me about this guy is his gratitude. The way he response to the hosts and those he talks with, it shows this man must have been taught well in his youth. One thing that he mentioned that got me thinking was his take on homeless people. Basically, you can’t judge a book by its cover. As I walk the streets of Downtown Salt Lake, I see the same panhandlers over and over again. I admit that I question what they are going to do with the money, are they really trying to just to live day to day or is it being used for their addiction. I guess that could be one in the same. Who knows, but maybe my outlook needs to change a bit.

Anther item from the story that got me thinking is that this man was given a second chance because someone else was willing to get involved and help. I am a religious man and believe that the Lord works through other people. We can’t go through life and make it without the help of others. Who knows what would have happened to this man if the reporter never did that story, he would probably still be panhandling on the streets.

The last item that I thought of, which pertains more to business and marketing yourself, is finding that one thing that you can do well and run with it. This man had the golden radio voice and he used it to his advantage. Even among the panhandlers, this set him apart. I do believe that we need help from others, but that doesn’t mean you can sit back and wait for someone to help you, you need to take what you’ve been given and use it.
