Every now and again you need a little help with getting the right font for a website. The following online tools have been a help to me one way or another in getting the right look. The great thing about some of these tools, they also generate the css code for you.

Typechart
lets you flip through, preview and compare web typography while retrieving the CSS.

Flipping Typical
A way to explore the popular typefaces you have on your computer.

CSS Type Set
Enter your text that you want to style, choose your style and get the css code.

PXtoEM
PX to EM conversion made simple. This site is helpful, but I’m more of a pixel font size guy.

Type Tester
The Typetester is an online application for comparison of the fonts for the screen. Its primary role is to make web designer’s life easier. As the new fonts are bundled into operating systems, the list of the common fonts will be updated.

Although, my list doesn’t compare with other lists out there, but they are tools I actually use.

How could you not want a book where the characters are completely made out of typography? I think I will order me one.

My Little Designer

As a father it has always brought me great joy when my children started drawing and doing creative things. Even today I can’t go home without getting at least one new picture from one of my children. Of course I love this at try to save as much of them as I can and encourage them as much as I can. I know all children love drawing so it shouldn’t be anything special but when my daughter created a flower out of her school spelling words, my heart was full of joy. She has started down the path of being a designer and using words and to create things. At least that was my thought. I was so impressed that I had to post the picture. Unfortunetely, the scan doesn’t do it justice but you can at least get a sense of it. Enjoy!

Flipping Typical

Do you ever find yourself wondering what a certain word would look like in a variety of fonts but want to see them all at the same time. Well, look no further, Flipping Typical is here. Just type in the word you want to see and instantly you have a font preview of the most well know fonts. This is a great idea since my process includes typing out the word multiple times in Illustrator and then searching through and applying the different fonts to the words.
